The Sacred Gift of Runner Beans

You hear so often it’s the little things in life that matter. It’s not the fancy car or the big house or the designer shoes or even the cupboard overflowing with latest gadgets. When all is said and done, when it’s time for you to leave this existence and travel to your next adventure, you won’t care about how much stuff you had.  It’s the memories that matter – the little things that can’t be measured, can’t be bought but can mean the world to you. One of those little things will always be runner beans. When I was a young, about the same age as my daughter is now, I would often spend Saturday night at my grandparents’ flat in London.  They’d pick me up Saturday lunchtime then my parents would stop by for Sunday dinner to take me home. Part of staying over was to go with my grandmother to the fruit and veg market at Clapham Junction.  It wasn’t too far away but I’d complain because on the way there, it was all uphill.  As soon as I got to the market, I’d forget about sore legs and become immersed in the energy of the market.  We’d get all the vegetables for Sunday […]
